# About the UDEC category

The Universal Distinct Element Code ( _UDEC_ ) is a two-dimensional numerical program that simulates the quasi-static or dynamic response to loading of media containing multiple intersecting joint structures.

The discontinuous medium is represented as an assemblage of discrete blocks while the discontinuities are treated as boundary conditions between blocks. Large displacements along discontinuities and rotations of blocks can occur. _UDEC_ utilizes an explicit solution scheme that can model complex, nonlinear behaviors.

I have a problem with the joint overlapping during compression of two blocks or Voronoi blocks. I don’t want overlapping but more displacement between the joints when in compression. I do the simulation but the overlapping happens between blocks and thus shows the stiffness problem. Do you know how can I remove the overlapping problem. Thank you.
