I’m modifying the Embedded Retaining Wall (FLAC2D) example and added Maxwell damping to the liner elements for a dynamic analysis using:

structure dynamic damping maxwell 0.0385 0.5 0.0335 3.5 0.052 25.0

I’ve attached the modified file:

[EmbeddedRetainingWall.dat](https://forum.itascainternational.com/uploads/short-url/cVaNo0omy2n5cIwSMyACwVYDJht.dat) (1.9 KB)

The model behaves differently depending on the excavation side:

- When the **left side** is excavated, the program crashes after Maxwell damping is assigned/activated.
- When the **right side** is excavated, the model runs successfully with the same damping settings.

Has anyone encountered similar behavior? Any suggestions on possible causes or modeling considerations when using Maxwell damping would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I’m using the Version 9.00.161.

You may try the latest FLAC2D9.0 version(v184), I ran the model your provided in FLAC2D9.0.184 without crash.
