How big a PFC3D model can you run on a modern PC - assuming spherical particles? More than a million?

Though computers have gotten more\faster memory, the CPU speeds haven’t increased much nor have the CPU caches. _PFC3D_ can simulate somewhere in the low millions of spherical particles reasonably on a single, modern PC.

Itasca is currently working on an MPI algorithm that we expect will push this into the 10’s of millions of spherical particles by solving a single model across several computers. The development of [web licenses](https://www.itascacg.com/software/web-licenses) for cloud computing plus a [Linux OS version](https://www.itascacg.com/about/news/itasca-software-now-available-for-linux), which are currently available, is part of our MPI development process.
