Estimating the Fracture energy during a compression test

Hello,

I am working on estimating the fracture energy of a specimen that fractured under a compression test. My approach is to calculate the bond breakage energy as the sum of the strain energy stored in each parallel bond at the time of its breakage.

Could you please advise on how I can track the broken bonds during the simulation? Is there a recommended method or FISH function that would allow me to record the strain energy of each bond at the moment it breaks, so that I can sum these values to estimate the total fracture energy?

Thank you for your time and support.

Best regards,

Alaa

Broken bonds can be tracked with the material modeling support package (at Material-Modeling Support for PFC | US Minneapolis - Itasca Consulting Group, Inc.), see Crack Tracking. All of this is FISH code so you can use that in your own functions if you wish.

Record strain energy: see Energy Partitions section for each contact model
