Hello everyone, I wanted to do a 2 step procedure on a model:
- Longitudanal confinement and release it
- Normal Wave Passing through the model
The second step is easily achieved by applying a velocity/stress at outer boundary. Can somebody please convey how to apply a stress longitudnal confinement(for e.g. 10 MPa) (Left and right of sample)on the following model (The confinement should only be of model and not of platens):
That does not make sense. Any stress in the sample must also be in the platens. Are you using rigid blocks?
No everything is deformable.
I want to capture the effects of preloading on a sample subjected to static/dynamic test.
But as I cannot delete platens, add a confinining stress remove it then add platen and do it. That is why I am asking regarding addition of confining stress in this and then removal.
You can just initialize the stress in the model using the “block insitu” command. note that because the model is unconstrained in the vertical direction the stress may reduce upon cycling. You can also build up lateral stress by moving the platens horizontally. Also keep in mind that the friction between the model and the voronoi blocks will affect the results.
