Deleting Zone Joints

Hi Everyone

I’m running an FLAC3D v9 model of an open pit made with Griddle, in which the structural model is represented by zone joints. After the last excavation stage, a buttress is located. For this I changed the constitutive model from null to mohr-coulomb in those zones and deleted the zone joints (“zone joint delete” command) that were inside the buttress.

However, after running, the buttress showed displacements along the previous existing zone joints planes:

How can I properly deactivate zone joints in the buttress? Is there anything apart from the “zone joint delete” command that I should apply?

besides using zone joint delete, you should attach those zones, probably that is the reason you are seeing that displacement field

Is that: “zone attach by-face range group ‘buttress’” ?

yes it is…. and use the command zone gridpoint merge also

Great, thank you @msepu for helping! Is there any value of tolerance that you could recommend for the gridpoint merge?

mmm 1e-4 should work well
