Maxwell Damping in Nonlinear Dynamic Analysis

I have performed a dynamic analysis of an earth structure. Previously, I ran the model using Rayleigh damping (zone dynamic damping rayleigh 0.005 1.0) without encountering any issues during the simulation.

However, when using Maxwell damping (zone dynamic damping maxwell 0.00396 0.5 0.00291 3.5 0.00416 25.0), the results in the first few seconds show that a zone of the mesh reaches a level of deformation that prevents the simulation from continuing. This zone corresponds to a rock basement with Vs = 1000 m/s, so it is unexpected that such large deformations occur in this material rather than in others with lower stiffness.

Could anyone suggest possible causes of this issue and how to resolve it? Any guidance on parameter calibration or modeling considerations when using Maxwell damping would be greatly appreciated.
