I am running the analysis for the staged construction of tailings dams. After adding each new tailings layer, as shown in the attached figure, I will free the PP at the bottom of the newly added tailings layer (the top surface of the previously deposited tailings) and then fix the “pp and saturation” on the top surface of the newly added tailings. The goal is to make sure the water table is at the top surface of the newly added tailings layer. Is this the correct hydraulic boundary condition? Do I need to use “initial pp xx var 0, -xx j = 1,xx” to set up the water table? As the top surface of the tailings dam is not horizontal, so I am afraid that I can not use the “initial pp” commend.
