Hi everyone, I am trying to run some parametric studies on Google Cloud using FLAC3D. Due to Windows Servers’ price tag, I want to use Linux version. For v9-subscription installer, v9 Subscription Installer | US Minneapolis - Itasca Consulting Group, Inc., it says the Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish) is the recommended OS to use.
But for v9-perpetual installer, v9 Perpetual Installer | US Minneapolis - Itasca Consulting Group, Inc., Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS (Focal Fossa) is recommended. I want to clarify which one is recommended? When I tried to use 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellfyfish), I had to force install the Debian distribution file, and got a lot of dependency problems. Tried on 20.04 LTS( Focal Fossa), it worked smoother. But just want to confirm what is the recommended OS to use? Anyone has any suggestions for it?
Hi @mcansuner, the Linux installer (*.deb) of our perpetual software (9.0) uses Focal Fossa (20.04), while the subscription license (9.1 and newer) uses Jammy Jellyfish (22.04). Use which ever software license you own.
We don’t typically distribute it, but there is a container version (*.SIF) of ITASCA software for installation for other Linux platforms. Contact FLAC3D Technical Support if this is something of interest.
You may also want to look into rescale.com, who we’ve partnered with to provide quick and easy cloud computing capabilities using Windows or Linux. They take care of all the software set-up and cloud service provider hardware. You just have to provide your ITASCA software web license credentials. Pricing is very transparent and includes both their fee and AWS or Azure (etc.) expenses. See our Rescale webinar for more information.
Cheers - Dave

Hi @ddegagne! Thank you for the suggestion. I was totally forgot to take a look at the Rescale platform. I’m trying to set-up and account there and use of it. And, I might consider that image file for future easy installation. Thank you!
